"COSS" COmmingled Separation
System for Commingled Containers and Paper
The commingled
collection of containers (glass, plastic and tin) and mixed
paper is a proven way to increase recycling participation but
this mix of material needs to be separated into marketable commodities.
Creative solutions are needed to reduce these costs.
The solution is "COSS", the
Commingled Separation System for recyclables. This system will
provide clean, separated commodities with little manual separation.
The standard system will accept commingled containers and produce
pulverized glass, ferrous metal, aluminum and sorted or mixed
plastics. Commingled paper is sorted into cardboard (OCC), one
sorted paper grade and mixed paper.
Only two pick stations are
included in the beginning of the system to remove the large
debris, OCC and select plastic or paper grades. Aluminum can
also be picked at the beginning of the system or removed from
the mixed plastics at the end of COSS system.
The
commingled material mix will determine system configuration.
No picking of glass is required and manual sortation at the
beginning or end of the system is kept to a minimum.
Designed and built using Andela's
proven technology, these machines are built tough, easy to maintain,
and are flexible enough to operate in the real world.
